בשנת 1968 הזמר והאורגניסט אל קופר שזה עתה גנבו לו את הלהקה שלו Blood Sweat & Tears, חובר לגיטריסט מייק בלומפילד שזה עתה גנבו לו את הלהקה שלו Electric Flag ולגיטריסט והזמר סטיבן סטילס שזה עתה פירק את הלהקה שלו Buffalo Springfield. יחד הם מקליטים ביומיים בלבד אלבום מופתי שמסעיר עד היום כל מאזין חדש שנתקל בו. לכבוד חגיגות ה-50 לאלבום שיצא ב-21 ביולי 1968, הקדשנו את "ספיישל של חצות" לסיפור של הפלא הזה ולסיפורם המוזר של גיבורי העל שהקליטו אותו.
